What is Liposuction?

Since liposuction is an effective solution for regional fat, it is also used as a substitute for many other aesthetic procedures. For example, liposuction is used in gynecomastia operations which are applied to male patients experiencing enlarged breasts. Another example may include bowed legs correction operations. In order to camouflage the distortions, the patient has their fat collected from another part of their body and has it added to the problematic area. Briefly, liposuction is a commonly used procedure to improve the results of an existing cosmetic surgery operation and to make it effective.

Who is suitable for Liposuction?

Candidates suitable for liposuction in Istanbul are men and women who struggle with stubborn fat that cannot be melted by diet and exercise.

To achieve long-term results, it is important to be physically healthy. Many patients combine liposuction with abdominoplasty or other plastic surgery treatments to remove unwanted skin.

Which body parts are treated with Liposuction?

The treatment of body parts with liposuction is different for men and women. The most common areas for women that need treatment are abdomen, breast, hips, outer and/or inner thighs, front side of the thighs, knees, arms, gluteal region, cheeks and neck.

Approximately 15-25% of patients who undergo liposuction are men, while the most common treatment areas for them are the chin, the neck, the abdomen, the shoulder blades and the chest.

What are the differences between vaser liposuction, laser liposuction and classic liposuction?

As technology is advancing, so are the techniques used in liposuction developing.

The techniques in which fat is melted and turned into liquid with radio frequency waves are called vaser.

Similarly, a technique in which fat is melted and turned into liquid with a laser has come into practice.

Their difference from the classical liposuction is fat tissue becomes much softer by the help of this equipment and it becomes easier to suction fat tissues from certain parts of the body.

Thanks to these techniques; bleeding, bruises, pain and irregularities are rarer than the classical technique. It is also possible to suction the fat tissue in a more homogeneous way.

Results

After the surgery, a special liposuction clothing and corset is put on. You may leave the hospital on the same day or one day later depending on the type of operation and the anesthesia applied.

You may get back to work in 2 days or 2 weeks depending on the procedure undergone.

No extraordinary pain occurs after the operation, painkillers will relieve you.

Swelling, bruises, and numbness go away by themselves in 3 weeks. The patient may continue wearing liposuction clothing (corset) for about 5 weeks. The liposuction scar is approximately 2-4 mm and becomes almost invisible in 3 months.

Please note that Liposuction is not a good alternative to diet or exercise. It is not surgery for losing weight, but rather for correcting body contours. This procedure is applied to the areas containing stubborn fat tissues that cannot be removed by diet or sport activities, thus present fat cells are decreased, too.

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery that generally gives good and long-lasting results and restores the person’s mental health.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will I recover?
The initial recovery takes one week after the surgery. One week after the surgery you may go back to daily life activities, including work and walking. You should avoid strenuous activities for one month after the surgery. The overall post-operative swelling lasts 3 to 6 months. During this period, it is important to support the body healing with the long-term post operation instructions given by the surgeon. This includes, diet, sports, and other tips which will be given in detail after the surgery.
Will I have scars?
Because the cannula is a tiny instrument, there aren’t any noticeable scars. The number of insertion points required to treat the area determines how many scars there will be. Scarring also differs based on the patient’s skin quality and age. During your face to face consultation, the surgeon will talk about where scarring might possibly emerge and how to lessen its visual impact.
Which body areas can be treated with liposuction?
For women, the abdomen, hips, thighs, knees, arms, buttocks, cheeks, and chin are the areas most frequently treated with liposuction. On the other hand, the most often treated body parts in men are the chin, belly, flanks (known as “love-handles”), and chest.
What is the ideal weight for undergoing liposuction?
The ideal BMI (Body Mass Index) range for undergoing liposuction is 25-30.
